How many reading options are there?
The Rite of Marriage provides 51 approved scripture passages: 11 Old Testament, 9 Psalms, 15 New Testament, and 12 Gospels. You pick one from each category. All are available in both English and Spanish.
Can we get married outdoors?
Canon law requires marriage between Catholics to be celebrated in the parish church (Canon 1118 §1). The local Ordinary may permit another church or oratory, and in exceptional cases another suitable place (§2). Outdoor or venue weddings without this permission are not valid. Speak with your pastor well in advance.
Can we choose our own music?
Music must be sacred and liturgically appropriate. Your parish music director will help you choose from approved options.
How long is the ceremony?
A Nuptial Mass typically runs 45-60 minutes. A ceremony without Mass is usually 20-30 minutes.
What if our families practice different religions?
Interfaith families are common. Your parish will help choose the right ceremony form so everyone feels welcome and respected.
